Racing, you watch it on TV. You accelerate through the on-ramp thinking about the F1 race you just watched. When you have been pulled over and the red lights are flashing in your rear veiw mirror, you just sigh and think that only if you were on the autobahn this would not have happened. Or if you had purchased that 3 cylinder slowpoke instead of the V8 or turbo-charged adreneline inducing machine that you are currently driving ' or rather, sitting in patiently while receiving a ticket.
It is time for a lifestyle change. For less than the cost of one speeding ticket (not counting insurance hikes) you can sign up for a day at the race track with Ontario Time Attack, a division of CASC-OR. Yes, this is the same CASC-OR that hosts many of the races that occur on Canadian soil at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly known as Mosport) and even in downtown Toronto at the Indy.
Before you start to think that this is too complicated, please realize that it is not. You drive your own car to the track, have an instructor assigned to work with you, put on your Snell approved helmet, buckle up your seat belt and off you go in your own car. For under $200 you can spend a day on the race track and get instruction to help you out. Annually in May there is a two day school for $500 which prepares you for virtually any track situation you may find yourself. You will have the opportunity to experience classroom sessions coupled with a lot of track time. The speeds at CTMP's driver development track are likely less than the speed that got you pulled over by the police, but the multiple corners coupled with elevation changes on this short course will absolutely thrill you.
Newcomers are welcome at any OTA competition event and instructors are available every morning. If the instructor is confident in your ability, you will be given a conditional pass to participate in competition during the afternoon session. Please realize that, for the safety of everyone involved, if the instructor does not feel that you are ready, you will not be allowed to participate in the timed competition. The instructors you have from Ontario Time Attack are either licensed or in the process of being licensed by CASC-OR. They have taken courses, demonstrated their ability to instruct in track settings, and then have shown that capability over a number of driving sessions.
Time Attack puts you on some of the best tracks in Ontario to allow you to explore the potential of your vehicle as well as your own capabilities. The risk factors are limited in that wheel to wheel or side by side racing is prohibited. Passing is only allowed when the lead car initiates the pass by pointing the following car by. This is only allowed in specified passing zones and this does not include corners. Professional track marshals are out monitoring the track throughout the day and they are in radio contact with the tower. Any issues (yes, it is a motor sport and there will be issues) and the drivers will be alerted and, if necessary, brought to a quick stop via the use of flags.
OTA has ten competition events at five Ontario tracks (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park Driver Development Track, CTMP Grand Prix Track, Shannonville Motorsports Park (Pro track and Long track), Toronto Motorsports Park (Cayuga) and Grand Bend Raceway. Our season began with an Open House at CSC Racing in Newmarket on April 1st, a high performance driving school on May 5 and 6, and competition that took place on May 26th and 27th. June 9th and 10th at Shannonville is our next competition event. Your car is placed into a class with vehicles of similar capability so if you're driving a Miata or Sentra, a 370Z or an RX8, a Mustang or a Corvette you will be classed fairly. You will be placed on the grid according to your actual lap times and, as your speed improves during competition, you will observer that competition passing in Ontario Time Attack occurs on grid row. And when you are on the track during competition, you will be given a clear track for three laps to ensure that you get your best possible time.

Whatever your level of interest, CASC-OR has the spot for you ' even if you have a full out race car. It is not complicated but it is addictive.
